Dave Kaspersin drk@dynrec.com Hi Dave, You might want to add that about 1 million innocent Iraqis have been slaughtered for oil. Last year, I walked into the Evergreen public library, which has a display case that changes out constantly, and the LIBRARIANS had plastered photos of thousands of people's faces who had been killed in Iraq. The theme was: "More than 800,000 Iraqi's have been killed in this occupation, plus the innocent American soldiers who are being slaughtered in vain. " What a shock. This was really a moving reminder of a slightly paraphrased song by Sting: "I hope the 'Iraqi's' love their children too." How are we going to clean up this mess and stop this senseless killing? No one ever won a war... Thanks ~ Carmen
Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’»
This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war: CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success. RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting. CHENEY: So? RADDATZ So? You don’t care what the American people think? CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

Within four weeks of the terrorist attack, in the name of combating terrorism and fighting the philosophy he said spawned it, the nation's now-popular leader had pushed through legislation that suspended constitutional guarantees of free speech, privacy and habeas corpus. Police could now intercept mail and wiretap phones; suspected terrorists could be imprisoned without access to their lawyers; and police could sneak into people's homes without warrants if the cases involved terrorism. To get his patriotic "Decree on the Protection of People and State" passed, over the objections of concerned legislators and civil libertarians, he agreed to put a four-year sunset provision on it: if the national emergency provoked by the terrorist attack was over by then, the people's freedoms and rights would be restored and the police agencies would be rerestrained. Within the first months after that terrorist attack, at the suggestion of a political adviser, he brought a formerly obscure word into common usage. Instead of referring to the nation by its name, he began to refer to it as "the Homeland". As hoped, people's hearts swelled with pride, and the seeds of an us-versus-them mentality were sown. Our land was "the" homeland, citizens thought: all others were simply foreign lands. Within a year of the terrorist attack, his advisors determined that the nation's local police and federal agencies lacked the clear communication and overall coordinated administration necessary to deal with the terrorist threat facing the nation, including those citizens who were of Middle Eastern ancestry and thus probably terrorist sympathizers. He proposed a single new national agency to protect the security of the Homeland, consolidating the actions of dozens of previously independent police, border and investigative agencies under a single powerful leader. |

Priorities OF The Top 2 Percent ???
Excerpt: "Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to uparmor our vehicles?" Wilson asked. A big cheer arose from the approximately 2,300 soldiers in the cavernous hangar who assembled to see and hear the secretary of defense. Rumsfeld hesitated and asked Wilson to repeat his question. "We do not have proper armored vehicles to carry with us north," Wilson said after asking again. Rumsfeld replied that, "You go to war with the Army you have," not the one you might want, and that at any rate the Army was pushing manufacturers of vehicle armor to produce it as fast as humanly possible. And, the defense chief added, armor is not always a savior in the kind of combat U.S. troops face in Iraq, where the insurgents' weapon of choice is the roadside bomb, or improvised explosive device. "You can have all the armor in the world on a tank and it can (still) be blown up," Rumsfeld said. "You go to war with the Army you have, not the one you might want," REALLY. If Rumsfeld knew that why did we go to war and risk our soldiers ???
December 5, 2004) Son fights in Iraq without warm clothes In a recent e-mail from my son Eric, whose stay in Fallujah has been extended until March, I quote his words, "Mom can you please send me some insulated Coveralls? It's getting really cold here. The heaters in the tents aren't working and the warm clothes would really be a big help. Please do what you can." It's hard enough having my son over there. Why can't the military supply warm clothes? Why don't they have heaters that work? Where are our billions of dollars going?

The latest abuse of our tax dollars is a briefing paper from the Social Security Administration claiming that if nothing is done to "fix" Social Security by 2042, benefit cuts will double the rate of poverty among the elderly. It is based on a number of implausible assumptions, but even if we accept all of them, we are looking at another trick. I believe the Bush crooks are gearing up to help their rich friends once again. Remember employers pay into Social Security and many of the "Greedy Rich" CEO's would love to see it stop.

One of the things that made this country strong was our money. One of the things that keeps this country strong is our money. And most of that money comes in the form of taxes. And the middle class were paying most of the taxes. Now due to downsizing, layoffs and moving American jobs overseas the middle class is paying a lot less taxes. THINK ABOUT IT ! Dave

http://www.kimsoft.com/2002/pygmy.htm What is a 'pygmy'? - "(both: pig´me) or Pigmy , a racial designation of dark-skinned people who live in equatorial rain forests and average less than 59 in. (150 cm) in height. Some studies make a distinction between Negrillos, who live in Africa, and Negritos, who live in Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and the Philippines: this classification system is rarely used today". Photo: A Pygmy chief (right) and Kim Jong Il. Pygmies are best known for their small size. Adults usually grow to be only three or four feet tall. In fact, their name, "Pygmy," is derived from the Greek word, pyme, which means "a cubit in height." The term is often used to degrade someone and in this context, it is equivalent to 'wae-nom' (??) in Korean. It also denotes racial slur against the African peoples. Given below is a Newsweek account of a meeting of George Bush and a group of US senators, during which Bush called Kim Jong Il a pygmy among other epithets. A SUDDENLY EMBATTLED president felt the need to talk tough-at length-behind closed doors. "No question, when he walked into the room he was shaken," one senator later said. What followed, according to several sources who were in the room last Thursday afternoon, was a jut-jawed, disjointed discourse with a tinge of diatribe and a crescendo of podium pounding. The president dismissed questions about his administration's counter terrorism actions-or lack of them-before September 11 as mere Democratic partisanship. "I sniff some politics in the air," he scoffed. Then he wandered off to the Middle East, recounting a blunt Oval Office conversation with Ariel Sharon. He said he'd asked the Israeli leader if he really hated Yasir Arafat. Sharon had answered yes, according to the president. "I looked him straight in the eye and said, 'Well, are you going to kill him?´ " Sharon said no, to which the president said he'd replied, "That´s good." Bush was just getting warmed up. "Now you guys really got me going," he said. He threatened to block the entire defense bill if it contained money for the controversial and costly Crusader artillery system. "I mean it. I'll veto it," he said tersely, glancing at Sen. Don Nickles of Oklahoma, where Crusader would be built. Bush ended with an attack on North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. "He´s starving his own people," Bush said, and imprisoning intellectuals in "a Gulag the size of Houston." The president called him a "pygmy" and compared him to "a spoiled child at a dinner table." Stunned senators didn't know quite what to make of the performance. "It was like in church, when the sermon goes on too long and you're not sure what the point is," one told NEWSWEEK. "Nobody dared look at anybody else."

Frontier Workers OK 10% Pay Cut -
GIVE ME A BREAK !
Take a pay cut or lose your job. That was the ultimatum some Frontier workers faced Thursday. About 100 people who work at Frontier's Internet Help Desk on Jefferson Road in Henrietta voted on changes to their three-month old contract. They could accept a 10 and a half percent pay cut and other changes to their three-month old contract, or have their jobs outsourced. Workers voted for the changes, some of which were outlined in a confidential document we obtained. They include, no pay for performance, no general wage increase and no progression in pay for different tiered workers. Workers say the amended contract protects their jobs for a year. Workers would not go on camera for fear of losing their jobs, but told us they're upset with Frontier and their union for not sticking to a contract that was approved only three months ago. A company spokeswoman said: "we've reached an agreement with the union and both of us remain committed to providing our customers with the best possible service." The president of Rochester Telephone Workers Association, the union that represents the workers, would not comment on Thursday’s vote.CAN YOU SAY CORPORATE GREED AT ITS WORST !! !

Update 08/14/03 Just 9 Seconds The man leading the investigation into the worst blackout in history says, "we will not cover up anything." Large parts of the U.S. and areas of Canada were plunged into darkness in nine seconds, and some are still without power today. Superpower With a Third World Grid Amid the blame game, former Energy Secretary Bill Richardson who described the United States as a "superpower with a Third World electricity grid" argued the problem was due to an antiquated infrastructure. "We have a huge demand for electricity with computers, technology, more people, but we have not fulfilled the infrastructure needed to deal with that new demand," he told Good Morning America today. "In other words, we don't build new transmission lines. The American people in many regions don't want them in their backyard." The problem, according to Richardson, was essentially because almost the entire eastern seaboard was run by the Niagara-Mohawk grid, which, "has been overloaded for years." Power company officials and government regulators have tried to find ways to beef up the Northeast power grid for some time. Experts say the Northeast has been short of power supplies needed for hot days and short of transmission lines to move that power where it's needed. "The power outages that we're seeing would suggest that something went wrong up in New York state somewhere from Syracuse north to the Canadian border," energy writer Bill Paul told ABCNEWS. "And what happened was a bunch of safety procedures went into play and the lines, the power, started to be cut off what you would call down stage. So you had an impact all the way down into Manhattan. You had an impact all the way out west into Cleveland and Detroit."
Especially the ones in power who think they can do anything they WISH!
" I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war" -- Abraham Lincoln (Nov. 21, 1864 letter to Col. William F. Elkins)

Thursday, August 26, 2004 MIAMI, Florida A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit claiming federal agents used excessive force in an armed raid to seize Elian Gonzalez at the home of his Miami relatives four years ago. An order issued Monday by U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke concluded the six agents who conducted the raid were legally immune to the lawsuit, and she found no constitutional violations. "We're pleased with the judge's decision," said Charles Miller, a Washington spokesman with the Department of Justice. The relatives were considering an appeal. "We are shocked and disappointed by the court's decision," Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said in a statement Wednesday. The legal group had sued on behalf of Elian's cousin, great-uncle and great-uncle's wife. "It's a shame the Bush administration defends these unlawful acts by the Clinton administration." Federal agents removed Elian, then 6, from the family's home before dawn in April 2000, five months after he was rescued from the Atlantic. His mother and others died trying to reach Florida by boat. The lawsuit alleged the raid team broke down the front door unannounced, sprayed irritating gas, held people at gunpoint and shouted obscenities at unarmed relatives, supporters and news media. An Associated Press photograph taken during the raid showed a frightened Elian in a closet, shrinking away from an a rmed marshal in SWAT clothing. The boy, now 10, was returned home to Cuba with his father after the raid.

Weaker Home Sales ADD to CONCERNS of SLOWDOWN
Sales of new single-family homes fell in April (97) to the lowest level in six months, taking some luster off of another government report showing the economy grew at a revised 5.8% rate in the first quarter-its fastest pace in a decade.
A warning from Intel Corp., the world's largest computer chip maker, that its seeond-quarter profits and sales will be below estimates also heightened concerns that the economy may be losing steam."The slowdown is for real," said Brian Wesbury economist at Griffin, Kubik, Stephens & Thompson Inc. in Chicago. "We're seeing slower auto sales in May, the housing market is coming off, and the GDP report has signs within it that growth in the seeond quarter won't be as strong." New home sales fell a larger-than-expected 7.7 percent in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 772.000, the Commerce department said. Separately, Commerce revised up its estimate of how fast the gross domestic product, the total output of goods and services, expanded in the first quarter. The change from the original estimate of a 5 Percent growth rate reflected stronger exports and inventory investment.

December 7, 2004 Survey: Employers set 104,000 job cuts last month, capping worst 3-month stretch since spring 2002. Hit by rising health care and energy costs, employers announced more than 100,000 job cuts last month, capping the worst three months of cutbacks since early 2002, an outplacement firm said Tuesday. Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. said companies announced 104,530 job cuts in November, up 5.1 percent from a year earlier and 2.6 percent from October. The total marks the first time that announced job cuts have topped 100,000 for three or more straight months since January to April of 2002. The telecommunications and auto industries were among the industries with the heaviest job cut announcements over the last three months. U.S. employers have announced 930,690 job cuts this year, down 19 percent from the same period a year earlier. But if December cuts reach 69,310, it will mark the fourth straight year with 1 million cuts announced by U. S. employers. The report also noted that a new Business Roundtable survey of CEOs at major companies found that 20 percent expect employment to fall in the coming months, up from 12 percent in the previous survey.

The God awful events of the past few years have left me feeling very depressed, as I'm sure many of us are. I am always deeply effected by the mess that that this world is in, and now more than ever.
